“Each of these installations exemplifies the versatility and flexibility our VRF technology brings to designs for specific applications,” said Mark Kuntz, senior vice president, Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc. Cooling & Heating Division. “Congratulations to the winners in each business unit for some truly remarkable projects.”

ABCO HVACR Supply + Solutions (ABCO), Design Excellence Award winner from the Northeast Business Unit, consulted on the unique cooling and heating design for the construction of The Cornell Tech Residential Tower, also known as “The World’s Tallest Passive House.” The Cornell Tech Residential Tower, located on Roosevelt Island in New York City, will have 60 to 70 percent less energy use for the housing of 502 students than a typical building of this size. The building had unique application requirements that called for special factory and field modifications as well as special energy allocation programming. The collaboration was “the best example of teamwork imaginable,” said Ron Young, director, commercial business, Northeast Business Unit, Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc. Cooling & Heating Division.

Applied Solutions, the West Business Unit Design Excellence Winner, provided design for the Overstock Peace Coliseum, its new global headquarters. The modern building covers 252,000 square feet, has 1,556 truckloads of concrete, 158 miles of electrical wiring, 65,300 square feet of glass and 54.25 miles of post-tensioned cable.
